Directions
when coming from the South (Uralla):
As
you approach Armidale from the south you will come to the
Armidale
Airporton your left. Just past the Airport you will come
to a roundabout.
Go straight through this roundabout (don't follow
the signs taking you down into
the city)
and keep going until you
reach an overpass ahead of you and signs on
your left
pointing
to the University of New England (UNE). Take this turn-off
and
you will
come to another roundabout. Signs will point left for the
UNE and
right for
the City Centre. You turn LEFT here.
To
reach 'Kestrel' you travel past UNE and follow the Boorolong
Road
for
approximately 24.5 km's. Some smaller roads will turn
off the
Boorolong Road,
but do not take any of these, just stay
on the bitumen. For much of
the way you
will see the old railway
tracks on your left.
Go
past the Warrane Road (turns off to your left at about 11 km
from
the UNE)
and you will cross the railway line by a new bridge
(you will see
the old bridge on your right).
Approximately
6.5km from the bridge you will travel down a long
hill with another
white bridge at the bottom of the hill. Half way
down this hill is a
turn off to the
right. The signs say "Guyra",
Black Mountain" and
"Exmouth".
Turn
right onto this road (it is a gravel road), then it will fork
after
only 30 metres.
Take the RIGHT hand fork - Exmouth Road -
and follow this road for
6km. It is a
gravel road and up hill.
Cross
the railway line (Ramps 1 & 2); keep going, over another
ramp
(3); keep
going - cattle yards on the left with elm trees
and ramp (4)
immediately before
the yards on left hand side.
Sign with JL & DC Gordon on at the
ramp - turn left over the ramp
and up a steep hill. Travel over ramp
(5) and 200 metres on the
right hand side there is a gate with a sign "Horses - Riding
and
Training Entrance".
Through the gate and follow the track down to
the yard and horses.
Welcome
to 'Kestrel'.
Directions
when coming from the North (Guyra):
Travelling
south through Guyra. At the 100 km limit sign turn right
onto Black
Mountain Road (if you miss it don't worry, you can still
turn right
a few k's down
the road at the Liberty truck stop).
Go
to Black Mountain, which is only a small village, and turn
right
over the railway
line onto Toms Gully Road (or straight
ahead and over the railway
line if you
are coming from the truck
stop). Down Toms Gully Road it changes to
dirt after
about 5km,
keep following it till you get to the Exmouth Road
(approx.
18 km's
from Guyra), which turns back on itself to the left. If you
get to a
T intersection
with bitumen road you have missed the
left turn by 30 metres.
Follow
Exmouth Road for 6km. It is a gravel road and up hill.
Cross
the railway line (Ramps 1 & 2); keep going, over another
ramp
(3); keep
going - cattle yards on the left with elm trees
and ramp (4)
immediately before
the yards on left hand side.
Sign with JL & DC Gordon on at the
ramp - turn left over the
ramp and up a steep hill. Travel over ramp
(5) and 200 metres
on the right hand side there is a gate with a sign "Horses -
Riding
and Training Entrance". Through the gate and follow the
track down to the yard and horses.
Welcome
to 'Kestrel'.
